The wayfinding at the Milwaukee County Zoo was unchanged for the last 30 years, and no longer served as helpful directions to the Zoo guests. The panels would fade into the tree line, the colors were unrelated and often blended together visually.
To solve this issue, I increased the icons to aid in non-written communication. I also matched the colors of the areas to the corresponding area on the Zoo maps located around the park and in brochures.
This project involved over 150 panels, meetings and approvals from both the Milwaukee County Zoo and Zoological Society of Milwaukee, and four different vendors. All of the panels were designed, printed and produced in house.
