Samson Stomp is the Milwaukee County Zoo's annual run honoring the beloved Silverback Gorilla, Samson (1950-1981).
The requirements for the design was a three color limit (including white), must work on a dark blue shirt and also include "Milwaukee County Zoo" "Samson Stomp" "presented by Prairie Farms" and "2024".
I was inspired by conversations with Zoo guests where they speak about Samson with such nostalgia, remembering their childhood. The first design I made paired a retro aesthetic with one of academic sports to invoke those feelings of nostalgia while matching the event.
The secondary design, I wanted to fully play up the retro design by mimicking a neon sign marquee. This was also inspired by a Samson Stomp shirt previously used 15 years ago.
